About Bubble Gobbler
Bubble Gobbler is a quick tapping game on a cream-colored page. Soap bubbles float up from the bottom of the screen. At the top sits a purple monster with one big eye and a row of red teeth. Tap the bubbles before they reach it.
It is a game of small, quick decisions. There are no levels or power-ups. You pop bubbles for as long as you can stay ahead of the monster.
How it works
Bubbles rise with a gentle side-to-side sway, in pastel colors. Tap or click one and it pops in a little burst of color. A bubble that reaches the tooth line is eaten, the monster chomps, and its eye swivels toward where it happened. After ten bubbles are eaten the round ends and shows your score. Play Again starts over.
Size matters for score. Small bubbles are worth 30, medium 20 and large 10. Small ones also rise faster, so the bubbles worth the most are the hardest to catch. Large ones are slow and easy but score little.
Each time a bubble is popped or eaten, a new one appears a moment later, and a steady timer adds more, so the screen always has bubbles. The pace starts slow and builds for the first minute and a half, until bubbles rise about three and a half times as fast as at the start. After that it stays there.
On touch, just tap. The speaker button mutes sound.
Tips
- Pop the bubble nearest the teeth first. Distance matters more than size or color.
- When two bubbles are equally close, take the small one. It is worth more, and it is the one that will get away.
- Large bubbles are slow, so they can wait. Come back to them when things are quiet.
- Tap the middle of a bubble, and aim slightly ahead if it is swaying sideways.
- The first minute is the calm part. Use it to settle into a rhythm before the pace picks up.
Why it feels good to play
Each pop has a short burst of noise and a falling tone, pitched lower for bigger bubbles, so a small bubble sounds light and a large one sounds rounder. A missed bubble gets a low rumbling chomp instead. The colors are soft, the monster looks more silly than scary, and every tap gets an immediate answer. Rounds are short enough to start another straight away.
Questions
Why do the small bubbles move faster?
Speed depends on size, so smaller bubbles rise faster. That is also why they pay 30 points, three times what the biggest ones do.
What happens when the monster eats a bubble?
It counts toward ten. The counter next to the monster shows how many have been eaten, and the round ends when it reaches ten.
Does the game keep getting harder?
Not forever. Bubbles speed up for about a minute and a half, then hold at that top speed.
