About Goal Rush
Goal Rush is a small car-soccer game seen from above. Ten balls sit on a pitch with a goal at each end. You drive Pip, the little orange car, and push balls into the gold goal at the far end while a computer-driven rival does the same to the blue goal behind you. A goal removes that ball. There are no accounts and no ranks: a match lasts about three minutes, and winning one opens the next of three stadiums.
A match ends after 3:00, or sooner when all ten balls have been scored. Whoever has more goals wins, and a tie is a draw. Every stadium is the same size and always fits your window: on a wide screen the pitch turns sideways so you can see all of it, and the goals sit at the left and right.
How it works
The car steers like a real one. The front wheels turn and the car pivots about its rear axle, so it needs some speed to turn and it swings its tail on tight bends. Releasing the gas lets it slow down quickly, and there is a hard top speed. Boost gives a burst of extra speed and drains a meter that refills while you are not boosting.
Drifting is part of the fun. Hold Shift, or brake while turning at speed, and the rear tyres let go: the tail steps out, the nose swings round, and you leave skid marks and a little squeal. Let go and the car catches itself. On touch screens the light slide happens by itself at full lock.
Balls bounce off the boards and off each other, and a ball rolling at a goal mouth curves gently toward the middle of it. Your hits that are roughly aimed at the goal are bent most of the way on target. The rival gets no such help; it has to line its shots up itself.
Keyboard: W / Up gas, S / Down brake then reverse, A / D or Left / Right steer, Space boost, Shift drift, P or Esc pause. On touch screens, drag anywhere to steer and hold the round button in the bottom-left corner to boost. Space or Enter starts a match from the menu. The game pauses by itself if you switch tabs or windows and never restarts on its own.
Difficulty
- Easy is a relaxed rival: slow, easily distracted and often wandering off.
- Normal drives properly, picks sensible balls and sometimes tries to block you.
- Expert is a faster driver that chooses its ball early, leads its shots to where the ball will be, boosts when it has a clear run, defends its goal when you threaten it and drifts through tight turns.
Stadiums
There are three stadiums. Winning a match in one, on any difficulty, unlocks the next. Each keeps a trophy for the hardest difficulty you have beaten there: bronze for Easy, silver for Normal and gold for Expert. Your progress is saved in your browser on this device only. The rival adapts to each stadium’s physics.
- Home Park is the classic: grass, ten balls of mixed sizes and wide goals.
- Ice Rink has slippery tyres, so the car keeps sliding sideways and brakes badly, and balls glide a long way along springy boards. Think ahead, because stopping takes room.
- Bumper Garden has five round bumpers on a lawn. They pop balls and cars away with a flash and a boing, so a ball aimed at one comes back faster than it left.
Tips
- Line the car up behind the ball and drive through it toward the goal.
- Use boost on long runs and for hard shots; tap it rather than holding it.
- A drift is the quickest way to turn the car round after a clearance.
- On ice, start turning early and ease off the gas before the ball.
- In Bumper Garden, use the bumpers to bounce balls past the rival, but keep your own goal in mind.
- Do not forget your own goal: the rival will happily fill it while you chase a distant ball.
Questions
Can I play on a phone?
Yes. Drag anywhere on the pitch to steer and hold the round button to boost. The pitch turns sideways when the screen is wide.
How do I share my score?
When a match ends, press Copy result. It copies a line such as the game, the stadium, the difficulty and the final score, which you can paste anywhere.
Where is the mute button?
It is the round button in the bottom-right corner of the game window.
