About Pull-Back
Pull-Back is a small physics puzzle seen from above. A red pull-back toy car sits at the bottom of a room and a glass marble sits somewhere ahead of it. Your job is to wind the car back, let it go, and bump the marble into the goal at the top of the screen: a garage, a shoebox or a mouse hole. There are twelve levels in three rooms, no accounts and no timer, and you can retry any level as often as you like.
Each level has a par, the number of touches it can be done in. A touch is one launch of the car. Finishing at par earns three stars, one over par earns two, and anything more earns one. Almost every level is a one-touch puzzle; Set It Up in the kitchen needs two.
How it works
Press and drag anywhere on the room, away from the direction you want to go, as if pulling a toy car backwards. A ring of notches around the car fills as you pull and a dotted line previews the car’s path up to its first bump. Release to launch. The car rolls, hits the marble and both keep rolling until they stop. If the marble is not in the goal, drag again from where everything stopped. Tap while the car is moving to fast-forward the roll.
Everything bounces off the walls, books, building blocks, slippers, crayon boxes and the sofa. Three toys are bouncy and kick things away: the duck squeaks, the spinning top pings and the rubber ball boings. The car also scoops the marble a little along its heading, so an aim that is nearly right still works. The ping-pong ball in Ping-Pong Bounce is lighter and bouncier than the marble.
The floor changes how far things roll. Bedroom carpet is grippy and short, kitchen tiles are slippery and long, and the wooden hallway is in between, with a rug that slows both the car and the marble. Reset level puts everything back at the start. Your stars are saved in your browser on this device only.
Today’s shot
The Today’s shot button at the top picks one of the twelve levels for the day, the same one for everyone. You can also open it directly with ?daily on the address. When you finish, Copy result copies a line with the level, your touches and your stars to paste anywhere.
Rooms
- Bedroom has plush carpet with short rolls, a garage and four gentle levels to learn the pull.
- Kitchen has slippery tiles with long glides, banks off books and blocks, a duck, and a two-touch puzzle.
- Hallway has a wooden floor, a mouse hole, a sofa and rugs that slow the car and the marble.
Tips
- A longer pull is not always better. On carpet a half pull is plenty; on tiles even less.
- Use the dotted line to check a bank shot before you let go; it shows the car’s path, so think about where the marble will go after the hit.
- For a marble tucked against a wall, hit it from the side so it rolls along the wall into the goal.
- Rugs eat speed, so pull harder when the marble has to cross one.
- If a level feels stuck, Reset level is free and you lose nothing.
